What file formats do you support?
Documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint to PDF), PDFs (to JPEG or PNG, plus merge, split, extract and rotate pages), images (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, TIFF and BMP), and audio and video (MP4, MOV, WebM, MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC and OGG). The converter only offers formats it can actually handle for the file you upload.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes. Files can be up to 25 MB each, and up to 100 MB in total when merging PDFs. Videos are also limited to 5 minutes and 1080p, because converting video is demanding work.
How does conversion work, and is my file kept?
Most conversions upload your file over HTTPS to FilesMagic's own conversion servers, where it is processed in a temporary workspace that is removed once processing completes. FilesMagic does not keep copies, does not log file names or contents, and strips location and camera details from photos and videos. Turning a JPEG, PNG or WebP image into a PDF runs in your browser instead, so that file is not uploaded. Files are never sent to an outside conversion provider, and each conversion page says which of the two applies to it.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login - choose a file and convert it.
Is there a FilesMagic iPhone app?
Yes. FilesMagic is free on the App Store for iPhone. Like most conversions on the website, the app sends the file you choose to FilesMagic's conversion service, so it needs an internet connection. More about the iPhone app.
How long does conversion take?
Most image and PDF conversions finish in a second or two. Documents and video take longer - usually a few seconds to under a minute. You'll see the upload progress, then a converting indicator until the file is ready.
Can I convert multiple files at once?
Currently, you can convert one file at a time. However, for PDFs, you can merge multiple files into a single document.
