Convert PDF to DOCX

PDF fixes a document's layout so it looks the same wherever it is opened, which is why it is the usual format for anything final. Converting it to DOCX gives you a file suited to letters, reports, essays and any document still being written.

About the formats

About PDF

PDF fixes a document's layout so it looks the same wherever it is opened, which is why it is the usual format for anything final. It is normally used for contracts, invoices, reports, forms and anything meant to be printed or archived. A PDF is designed to be read rather than edited, so changing the text after the fact is awkward.

About DOCX

DOCX is the modern Word format: a ZIP archive of XML describing the text, styles and images of a document. It is normally used for letters, reports, essays and any document still being written. How a DOCX looks depends on the fonts and Word version on the machine opening it, so the same file can reflow elsewhere.

What to expect

  • Layout is reconstructed and complex documents may need manual adjustment.
  • This conversion is handled by a third-party service, not FilesMagic's own engine.

What happens to your file

FilesMagic's own engine does not perform this conversion yet, so the file is sent to a third-party conversion service to be processed. If you would rather not use an outside provider for a particular document, use a conversion handled by FilesMagic's own engine instead.

Questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

Yes, and not to us. FilesMagic's own engine cannot do this conversion yet, so the file is passed to a third-party conversion service. Conversions handled by our own engine are marked as such.

Does converting PDF to DOCX reduce quality?

Neither format discards detail, so the image data survives the conversion intact. Only the file size changes.

How big a file can I convert?

Files can be up to 25 MB, and documents of up to 50 pages. The page limit matters more than the file size here, because every page has to be rendered as its own image.
