Convert TIFF to PNG

TIFF stores images without discarding detail and can hold several pages in one file. Converting it to PNG gives you a file suited to logos, icons, screenshots and any image with sharp edges or transparency.

About the formats

About TIFF

TIFF stores images without discarding detail and can hold several pages in one file. It is normally used for scanning, printing, archiving and document imaging. Files are large, and browsers do not display TIFF.

About PNG

PNG compresses without discarding any detail, and supports a full alpha channel for transparency. It is normally used for logos, icons, screenshots and any image with sharp edges or transparency. Lossless compression means photographs come out considerably larger than the same image as JPEG.

What to expect

  • A multi-page TIFF is returned as a ZIP with one image per page.

What happens to your file

Your file is uploaded to FilesMagic's own conversion servers over an encrypted connection, converted there, and deleted as soon as the download has been sent. We do not keep copies, and we do not log file names or file contents.

Questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

Yes. Converting this format needs software that cannot run in a browser, so the file is uploaded to FilesMagic's own servers, converted, and deleted once your download has been sent.

Does converting TIFF to PNG reduce quality?

Neither format discards detail, so the image data survives the conversion intact. Only the file size changes.

How big a file can I convert?

Files can be up to 25 MB. That is generous for this format - if a file is larger than that it is usually because of embedded images, and compressing those before converting normally brings it well under the limit.

Why did I get a ZIP file?

Each page becomes a separate PNG image. One page comes back as a single image; more than one comes back as a ZIP containing them all, numbered in page order.
