Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This policy covers both FilesMagic products: the filesmagic.com website and the FilesMagic iOS app. FilesMagic is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not create accounts, and we do not build a profile of you or a library of your files. Both products send the files you choose to convert to FilesMagic's own conversion service, except for a small set of conversions the website performs entirely in your browser. Exactly what happens to a file, and for how long, is described below.

2. Information FilesMagic Processes

• The file you choose to convert. Read directly from your device or browser file picker - FilesMagic cannot browse your device or access anything you did not select.
• Technical request information generated automatically by any web request, such as your IP address, timestamps, and the conversion pair you requested. Section 5 explains this separately from file content.
• Anonymous website usage events from the website only, described in section 6.
• FilesMagic does not ask for your name, email address or any account information to use either product.

3. File Conversion Processing

• Most conversions, on both the website and the iOS app, run on FilesMagic's own conversion service. When you choose a file, it is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to FilesMagic's servers, converted, and the result is sent back to you. This is also true of the iOS app: selecting a file in FilesMagic for iPhone sends it to the same conversion service the website uses.
• Some website conversions never leave your browser. Turning a JPEG, PNG or WebP image into a PDF on the website is done locally on your device, and nothing is uploaded for that specific conversion.
• FilesMagic operates its own conversion service. Your file is not forwarded to an unrelated third-party conversion provider.
• We do not read, index, or retain the contents of your files, and we do not log file names.
• Location data, camera details and similar personal information embedded in photos and videos are removed as part of image and media conversion.

4. Temporary Files and Retention

Each conversion gets its own temporary, isolated working folder on FilesMagic's servers. Your file is written there only for the conversion itself, and that folder - the file you uploaded and the file we produced - is deleted once the converted result has been returned to you, or immediately if the conversion fails. Files are never written to a database or any long-term storage, there is no user account, and FilesMagic keeps no library or history of files you have converted, on the website or in the iOS app.

5. Technical and Server Information

Separately from the contents of your file, FilesMagic's servers generate ordinary technical request logs, the same as any web service: your IP address, a request timestamp, the requested conversion pair (for example DOCX to PDF), the input and output file size, how long the conversion took, and a request ID used to trace a specific failure. Your IP address is also used, in memory and temporarily, to apply rate limits that stop automated abuse of the service. None of this technical logging includes your file's name or its contents, and it is not linked to an account, because FilesMagic has none.

6. Analytics / Cookies

Website. We use PostHog for product analytics, so we can see which converters people use and which ones fail. It records anonymous, aggregate usage only: which page was viewed, which conversion was attempted, whether it succeeded or failed, how long it took, a general size band such as “1-5MB”, and ordinary browser and device information such as browser name and screen size. We do not send your file, your file's name, or anything read from inside it - not the document text, not its metadata, not the name of the file you chose or downloaded. When a conversion fails we record a short code such as OCR_REQUIRED, never the underlying error message. This analytics data is kept in memory for your visit only: no analytics cookie is set, no profile is created, and nothing is stored on your device between visits, so no cookie consent banner is used on the website.

iOS app. The app contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK, so nothing about your usage is collected automatically. If you choose to contact support about a failed conversion, the app can prepare a short summary for you to send yourself - app version, platform, the request ID and error code the server returned - and nothing is sent unless you choose to share it.

7. Service Providers

FilesMagic's conversion service runs on infrastructure operated by Render, and is fronted by Cloudflare's network, which helps deliver the service and filter abusive traffic before it reaches FilesMagic's servers. For website analytics, PostHog processes the anonymous usage events described in section 6. No file you convert is passed to any other outside company, and we do not use your files or website usage for advertising, profiling, or to train AI models.

8. Security

Files are transferred to FilesMagic's conversion service over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and each conversion runs in its own isolated temporary workspace that is removed afterward, as described in section 4. We do not keep copies, and there is no account or file history to expose. For conversions that run in your browser, the file never leaves your device at all. No online service can guarantee absolute security, and FilesMagic does not claim one that it cannot back up.

9. User Choices / Requests

Because FilesMagic has no accounts and keeps no file library, there is no dashboard of stored data to manage - each conversion is deleted once it completes, as described in section 4. 10. Children's Privacy

FilesMagic is a general-purpose file conversion tool, not a product directed at children, and does not knowingly collect information from children. There are no accounts and no profiles, so no personal information is gathered from anyone using the website or the iOS app.

11. Changes to This Policy

Any updates to this policy will be published on this page, and the date below will change. Continuing to use FilesMagic after an update means you accept the revised policy.
